Abstract
Treaty of Neurosurgery, volume I, was published in June by Medical Publishing, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. MSc. A.V. Ciurea, representing a crowning of the experience of neurosurgery clinics in the country.
The publication of this first volume of Treaty of Neurosurgery represents a critical point in Romanian neurosurgery and continues the tradition of marking the historical development of our specialty which began with the publication of the first treaty: Traite de neurochirurgie written in French by Prof. D. Bagdasar and C. Arseni in 1950 and followed by the publication of A Practical Guide to Neurosurgery in 1998 by Prof. Al. Constantinovici and A.V. Ciurea.
The treaty marks the current stage in the development of neurosurgery and offers cutting edge knowledge to the new generation of training specialists. The contribution of a great number of experienced authors from the most prestigious specialty centers in our country represents an opportunity to illustrate the particular level Romanian neurosurgery has reached in its evolution.
This first volume deals with craniocerebral pathology and comprises 27 chapters which present fundamental elements of traumatic, malformation, vascular and craniocerebral pathology. The neurosurgery data is completed by neuroimagery, forensic, neurorecovery data and by that of genetics and molecular biology in the intracranial expansive processes. Many chapters include current scorings used in neurosurgical pathology, and therapeutic algorithm schemes which are extremely necessary in making correct decisions regarding complex intracranial lesions. It does not neglect the current neuroendoscopy, neuronavigation, stereotaxic biopsy and Gamma knife radiosurgery data. In each chapter the inography is extremely rich and illustrative for the surgical documentation. Thanks to the authors’ experience, this treaty is produced according to European standards and comprises 746 pages realized in exceptional graphic conditions. Each chapter’s bibliography is up to date, without omitting previous essential data.
The treaty is addressed to all neurosurgeons in Romania and also to the medical specialties related to and bordering neurosurgery: neurology, traumatology, anesthesia and intensive care, ophthalmology, ENT, pediatrics, emergency medicine, recovery etc.
